As a child, Pia could never decide whether she wanted to be a scientist or a writer. Now that she’s older (but not necessarily grown up) she’s thrilled to have been able to combine science and writing into an incredibly fun and stimulating career as a life science marketer.
Pia’s scientific background reflects her eclectic interests (what part of biology isn’t fascinating?), with hands-on experience in protein-DNA biochemistry, plant-bacteria symbiosis, genomics (in the days BNGS, or before NGS), systems biology, and antiviral drug discovery, and degrees from Princeton (BA, Chemistry), University of California, Berkeley (PhD., Molecular and Cell Biology), and postdoctoral work at Stanford University.
After the recession in 2010 found her lab-less, she made the move to a marketing agency and hasn’t looked back since. When pressed, she says that the transition makes perfect sense as her scientific interests and writing interests are ultimately all about understanding signaling and communication.
